ABSTRACT

This study was aimed at the evaluation of cell proliferation, p53 level and apoptotic index by immunohistochemical methods in canine oral papillomatosis. The study material comprised of tumor tissue samples taken from six dogs being admitted to the Pathology Department of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kafkas University, Kars, Türkiye. Choice of immunohistochemical staining was avidin-biotin peroxidase method. Cases of canine oral papillomatosis, determined to have been caused by canine papillomavirus-1, were found to have a rather high cell proliferation index. Furthermore, all cases were immunohisto-chemically demonstrated to carry a mutant p53 gene. Despite the mutation of p53 gene, the shift in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio of dogs diagnosed with tumor was in favor of the pro-apoptotic Bax gene. The apoptotic mechanism was determined to occur through both the caspase-dependent and caspase-independent pathways. While the lesions occupied the entire oral cavity in some cases, histopathologically, malignant transformation was not detected in any of the six cases.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Investigation of how position affects postoperative pain levels and hospitalization in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) surgery. METHODS: Between August 2019 and December 2022, a total of 156 patients who underwent prone (pPNL) and supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (sPNL) due to kidney stones were included in the study. Demographic data, preoperative CT scans, laboratory results, transfusion rates, operation durations, complication rates, stone-free rates, analgesic use, nephrostomy removal time, hospitalization duration, fluoroscopy time, hemoglobin decrease and postoperative Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores were evaluated for all patients. By comparing these data between the sPNL and pPNL groups, the effect of position selection in PNL on pain control, analgesic requirement, and hospitalization duration was examined. RESULTS: In the comparison of the pPNL and sPNL groups, there was a significant difference between the two groups in body mass index, hounsfield unit, complication rate, analgesic rate, nephrostomy remove time, hospitalization time, operation time, fluoroscopy time and VAS score (p = 0.025, p < 0.001, p = 0.012, p = 0.012, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: The shorter operation and hospitalization time in the sPNL group could be attributed to performing surgeries in a physiological position. Additionally, sPNL seems advantageous in terms of patients' pain levels, hospitalization time and VAS scores. One reason for this could be the different areas of access in sPNL and pPNL, which may correspond to different dermatome regions. Considering the low level of pain and reduced analgesic usage, sPNL appears to be advantageous.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: To analyze the dose-dependent preventive effect of a plant-based herbal product on the new crystal formation in a rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 42 rats were divided into 7 groups and zinc discs were placed into the bladder of rats to provide a nidus for the development of new crystal formation: Group 1: control, Group 2: 0.75 percent ethylene glycol (EG); Group 3: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.051 ml of the compound; Group 4: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.179 ml of the compound; Group 5: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.217 ml of the compound; Group 6: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.255 ml of the compound; Group 7 0.75 percent EG plus 0.332 of the compound). The analysis and comparison focused on the disc weights, changes in urinary oxalate and calcium levels, urinary pH, and the histopathologic evaluation of the inflammatory changes in the bladder after 14 days. RESULTS: According to the evaluation of discs placed in the bladders of the animals, animals receiving the herbal compound on a dose-dependent basis showed a limited increase in the disc weights values after 14 days, despite a considerable increase in animals receiving EG alone (p = 0.001). Further evaluation of the increase in disc weights on a dose-dependent basis in different subgroups (from Groups 3 to 7) demonstrated that the limitation of crystal deposition began to be more prominent as the dose of herbal compound increased. This effect was more evident particularly in comparisons between group 7 and others, according to LSD multiple comparison tests (p = 0.001). As anticipated, there has been no discernible change in the weight of the discs in the control group. Although urinary calcium levels in animals of Groups 2, 6, and 7 were significantly higher than the other groups, we were not able to demonstrate a close correlation between urinary oxalate levels and the increasing dose levels. Even though mean urine pH levels were statistically considerably higher in Group 3, there was no statistically significant correlation between the oxalate and calcium levels between all groups, and no association was seen with the administration of herbal agents. The transitional epithelium between the three groups of animals' bladder samples did not exhibit any appreciable difference according to pathological analysis. CONCLUSIONS: In this animal model, the treatment of the compound was successful in lowering the amount of crystal deposition surrounding the zinc discs, most noticeably at a dosage of 0.332 ml, three times per day.

BACKGROUND: The goal of this study was to develop a safe fixation technique for the effective treatment of supracondylar and distal diaphyseal femoral fractures in newborn calves. METHODS: This study included a total of 25 newborn calves diagnosed with supracondylar or distal diaphyseal femoral fractures based on anamnesis and clinical and radiographic examination findings. Operations were performed under intrathecal anaesthesia. During the operation, the fracture line was found, and fixation was achieved by placing two Steinmann and Schanz pins. RESULTS: No abnormal findings were seen in the radiographs performed 28 days after surgery, and it was determined that a hard callus had started to form. It was observed that the patients who had lightly stepped on the ground for the first 3 days after the operation were able to walk without any problems on day 28. LIMITATIONS: As this study involved neonatal calves aged 1-14 days, the operation could only be performed under spinal anaesthesia with no sedation. However, sedation is likely to be applied in addition to spinal anaesthesia in older calves. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that the triple pin technique can be safely used in the treatment of supracondylar and distal diaphyseal femoral fractures.

AIM: Although many methods have been defined for colonic anastomosis, anastomotic leak still remains important for sepsis control and successful healing. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of conventional suture, polyglactin 910 mesh, and omental flap coverage on healing and anastomotic leak in experimental colonic anastomosis in rats. METHOD: This study was conducted on 18 Wistar rats and the animals were divided into three groups as follows: Group 1: primary suture group; Group 2: primary suture plus polyglactin 910 mesh group; and Group 3: primary suture plus omental flap coverage group. Groups were compared in terms of anastomotic bursting pressure, inflammation, fibroblastic activity, neovascularization, and collagen amount. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference in anastomotic bursting pressure between Groups 1 and 2 and between Groups 1 and 3 (p=0.004, p<0.05). There was a significant difference in fibroblastic activity between Groups 1 and 3 (p=0.011, p<0.05) and between Groups 2 and 3 (p=0.030, p<0.05). There was a significant difference in neovascularization and collagen between Groups 1 and 2 and between Groups 1 and 3 (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: This experimental study found that polyglactin 910 mesh and omental flap coverage for colocolic anastomoses improved the physical strength and healing of the anastomosis compared to conventional hand-stitched anastomoses. The polyglactin may be a safe alternative to 910 mesh in cases where the omental flap coverage cannot be used in the colonic anastomosis.

ABSTRACT

One of the most important problems encountered in cattle breeding is urethral urolithiasis. Urolithiasis can be treated using various methods, but they all carry risks. Thus, a continuous search is being carried out for alternatives in this field. This study aimed to treat urethral urolithiasis in male cattle using pneumatic lithotripsy, a minimally invasive method. The urethra and penile tissues of 20 male cattle of different ages and breeds were obtained from slaughterhouse materials and measured before determining the probe diameters and lengths. The study included 9 male cattle (2 Simmental hybrids, 1 Zavot hybrid, 1 Brown, and 5 Simmental), between 4 months and 2 years of age, diagnosed with urethral urolithiasis. A modified lithotripsy apparatus was used for the pneumatic disintegration of urinary stones. The localization of urinary stones in the urethra was determined by palpation and catheterization. After laying the animal in a lateral position, a lithotripsy probe of appropriate length and diameter was advanced from the external urethral orifice to the site of localization. Once the probe came into contact with the stone, a vibration of 125 bar was applied until the stone was broken. The probe was removed, and the urethral channel was washed with 0.1% iodine solution to remove the shredded urethral stones. Uncomplicated recovery was achieved in all treated cases. In conclusion, pneumatic lithotripsy provided successful results in treating urolithiasis and can be used as an alternative surgical method in cattle. Moreover, the low cost is an additional advantage to breeders.

RESUMO - RACIONAL: Embora muitos métodos tenham sido definidos para anastomose colônica, a fistula anastomótica ainda permanece importante para o controle da sepse e a cura bem-sucedida. OBJETIVO: comparar os efeitos da sutura convencional, tela de poliglactina 910 e cobertura de retalho omental na cicatrização e extravasamento anastomótico em anastomose colônica experimental em ratos. MÉTODO: estudo realizado em 18 ratos Wistar, sendo os animais divididos em 3 grupos. Grupo 1: Grupo de sutura primária; Grupo 2: sutura primária com malha de poliglactina 910; Grupo 3: Grupo sutura primária com cobertura de retalho omental. Os grupos foram comparados em termos de pressão de ruptura anastomótica, inflamação, atividade fibroblástica, neovascularização e quantidade de colágeno. RESULTADOS: houve diferença estatisticamente significativa na pressão de ruptura da anastomose entre os Grupos 1 e 2 e os Grupos 1 e 3 (p=0,004, p<0.05). Houve uma diferença significativa na atividade fibroblástica entre os Grupos 1 e 3 (p=0,011, p<0.05) e os Grupos 2 e 3 (p=0,030, p<0.05). Houve uma diferença significativa na neovascularização e colágeno entre os Grupos 1 e 2 e entre os Grupos 1 e 3 (p<0,05, p<0.05). CONCLUSÃO: o estudo experimental demonstrou que a tela de poliglactina 910 e a cobertura do retalho omental para anastomoses colocólicas melhoraram a resistência física e a cicatrização da anastomose em comparação com as anastomoses suturadas manualmente convencionais. A poliglactina pode ser uma alternativa segura à tela 910 nos casos em que a cobertura do retalho omental não pode ser utilizada na anastomose colônica.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: During root canal preparation apical extrusion is an undesirable situation that can cause postoperative complications. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of the presence of different chelators in root canals during preparation on the amount of apically extruded debris and to investigate the effect of surface tension of irrigant on the apical extrusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety extracted mandibular incisor teeth were included. Prior to canal preparation, the teeth were mounted to Eppendorf tubes. Root canals of the samples were prepared with Reciproc instruments in the presence of different chelating agents (17% EDTA-liquid, 17% EDTA-gel, 7% maleic acid, 2.25% peracetic acid, 10% citric acid) and 5% NaOCl. Apically extruded debris was collected in Eppendorf tubes and weighted with an electronic balance. The surface tension of solutions was calculated with the ring method using a du Noüy ring digital tensiometer. The statistical analysis was performed with Tamhane's T2 test for apical extrusion and the Tukey for surface tension. The correlation between apical extrusion and surface tension was compared using Pearson's coefficient. RESULTS: The least amount of apically extruded debris was with EDTA-gel, peracetic acid and citric acid which were similar to each other. NaOCl had the highest surface tension whereas peracetic acid and EDTA-liquid had the lowest. There was no significant correlation exists between apical extrusion and surface tension. CONCLUSION: The presence of EDTA-gel, citric acid and peracetic acid in root canals during preparation decreased the amount of apically extruded debris compared to other solutions. The investigated irrigation solutions have no significant effect on the amount of apical debris extrusion.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the bleaching effectiveness and mineral alterations following the use of experimental bleaching gels that included 6% hydrogen peroxide (HP), titanium dioxide (TiO2) and/or chitosan in comparison with the routinely used 35% HP bleaching gel. Thirty-six maxillary anterior teeth were divided into three groups according to bleaching agent as follows: Group 1: 6% HP + TiO2, Group 2: 6% HP + TiO2 + chitosan, Group 3: 35% HP. Tooth colour was measured with a spectrophotometer before bleaching and after sessions one and two on days 14 and 30, respectively. Colour changes were assessed with the CIEDE2000 and CIELab formulas. Mineral analysis was performed with a scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) device before and 14 days after application. The enamel surfaces of randomly selected samples from each group were analysed by SEM. Two-way ANOVA was used to compare differences between groups. All tested materials resulted in significantly increased bleaching compared to the initial colour values (p < 0.05). Group 3 showed significantly more whitening compared to the other groups after the first and second sessions (p < 0.05). However, Group 2 presented prolonged whitening efficiency and reached a bleaching level similar to the 35% HP treatment after 14 and 30 days. The results of the CIEDE2000 and CIELab formulas were found to be correlated (r > 0.6). The increases in Ca were similar in Groups 2 and 3 (p > 0.05) and were significantly higher than that in Group 1 (p < 0.05). p was similarly decreased among all groups (p > 0.05). The combination of 6% HP, chitosan and TiO2 appears to constitute a promising material for tooth whitening, showing good bleaching efficiency and acceptable mineral alterations.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the bleaching efficacy and shear bond strength (SBS) of composite restorations performed immediately after bleaching with a newly developed experimental bleaching agent, including 6% hydrogen peroxide (HP), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and/or chitosan (CS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We randomly divided 132 maxillary anterior teeth into 2 study groups, 60 teeth for color analysis and 72 teeth for the SBS test. For color analysis, teeth were divided into 5 subgroups. For SBS analysis, teeth were divided into 6 subgroups according to bleaching agent: group C (control): no bleaching; group 35HP: whiteness 35% HP; group 6HP: 6% HP; group HPC: 6% HP+CS; group HPT: 6% HP+TiO2; group HPTC: 6% HP+ TiO2+CS. The teeth were measured with a spectrophotometer before and 24 h after the bleaching, and calculated with the CIEDE2000 formula. SBS test was evaluated in composite restorations immediately after bleaching, using a universal testing machine. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA. RESULTS: The highest ∆E00 values were observed in group 35HP (4.2 ± 1.2); the lowest value was observed in group 6HP (1.7 ± 0.6) (p < 0.05). The values for groups HPC and HPT were similar to each other and significantly lower than the value for 35HP (p < 0.05 and p > 0.05, respectively). Group HPTC was similar to 35 HP (p > 0.05). For SBS, all groups except those containing chitosan showed significantly decreased bond strength compared to the control (p < 0.05), while groups HPC and HPTC had values similar to the control (p > 0.05). Group C (28.02 ± 6.81) had the highest value, while group 35HP (17.02 ± 7.79) had the lowest SBS value. CONCLUSION: With the newly developed agent, the bond strength immediately after bleaching was found to be similar to the control group. Its bleaching efficacy was similar to that of routinely used bleaching agents.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of different universal adhesive systems in the mouse fibroblast cell line L929. MATERIALS AND METHODS: L929 (mouse fibroblast) cells were exposed to G-Premio Bond (GPB) (GC Europe, Belgium), Prime&Bond Universal (Dentsply Sirona, USA), Universal Bond Quick (Kuraray, USA), Single Bond (SB) Universal (3M ESPE, USA), and Tokuyama Universal Bond (TB) (Tokuyama, USA). Cell viability was assessed by the 2,3-bis-(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide test, whereas oxidative DNA damage was assessed by determining the 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine level using an enzyme-linked immunoassay kit. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance, followed by Bonferroni post hoc tests. RESULTS: Cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of TB and SB Universal groups were significantly higher than the other groups (P < 0.05). Among the adhesives tested, GPB (93.0 ± 1.3) had the least cytotoxicity, while TB (67.3 ± 3.0) had the most cytotoxic effect. In terms of genotoxicity, GPB (2.2 ± 0.3) had the least genotoxic effect, while Tokuyama Bond Universal (4.17 ± 0.4) had the most genotoxic effect. CONCLUSIONS: Universal adhesive systems used in dentistry have cytotoxic and genotoxic effects in live cells. Universal adhesive systems should, therefore, be used with caution due to their cytotoxic and genotoxic effects in clinical applications.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to evaluate the degree of crack formation during canal preparation using reciprocating files. A total of 120 incisor teeth were divided into eight groups according to irrigation protocol (n = 15). The irrigation solution and chelating agents included distilled water, sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), citric acid, maleic acid, peracetic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) gel, and EDTA liquid. The root canals were prepared using reciprocating instruments while one of the agents was present within the root canals. A control group was subjected to neither preparation nor irrigation. The roots were horizontally sectioned 3, 6, and 9 mm away from the apices. The numbers of cracks were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed using a chi-squared test. The chelating agents resulted in similar numbers of cracked sections. The use of one of the chelating agents during preparation using reciprocating instruments appears to be beneficial in reducing crack formation.

ABSTRACT

We present a novel approach for identifying a multiaxial thermodynamic magneto-mechanical constitutive law by direct bi- or trivariate spline interpolation from available magnetization and magnetostriction data. Reference data are first produced with a multiscale model in the case of a magnetic field and uniaxial and shear stresses. The thermodynamic model fits well to the results of the multiscale model, after which the models are compared under complex multiaxial loadings. A surprisingly good agreement between the two models is found, but some differences in the magnetostrictive behaviour are also pointed out. Finally, the model is fitted to measurement results from an electrical steel sheet. The spline-based constitutive law overcomes several drawbacks of analytical approaches used earlier. The presented models and measurement results are openly available.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study is to compare the fracture resistance of teeth after access cavity preparation with conventional rotary burs, Erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser (Er:YAG) and Erbium, cromium: yttrium scandium gallium garnet laser (Er,Cr:YSGG) lasers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty five intact mandibular molars were divided into 3 negative groups (groups 1, 2, 3; n=5 for each), 3 study groups (groups 4, 5, 6; n=10 for each) and 1 positive control group (intact teeth; n=10). Access cavities of groups 1, 2 and 3 were prepared with conventional burs, Er:YAG laser and Er,Cr:YSGG laser respectively. After root canal obturation, their coronal portions were left non-restored. Access cavities of groups 4, 5 and 6 were prepared by using the same equipment but their coronal portions were restored with composite resinafter root canal obturation. Following thermocycling, fracture strength was evaluated with a Universal Testing Machine. Mean force at which each sample is fractured was recorded in Newton unit and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Fracture resistance of group 7 (intact teeth) was significantly higher than all other groups (p<0.001). Differences among the fracture resistance values of groups 4, 5 and 6 were not significantly different but they were significantly higher than those of groups 1, 2 and 3 (p<0.001). No significant difference was found between Groups 1, 2 and 3. CONCLUSION: Preparing access cavities with either laser or bur has no effect on the fracture resistance of teeth with root canal treatment.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Peritendinous adhesions are a significant problem in tendon surgery. One of the most preferred methods for preventing adhesion formation is anti-adhesive applications. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of natural synovial fluid as an alternative viscoelastic agent for preventing adhesion in the healing period compared to hyaluronic acid. Thirty adult New Zealand rabbits were used in the study to form three experimental models. In all groups, a rupture was induced in the Achilles tendons. Following tenorrhaphy, hyaluronic acid was applied in one group and synovial fluid in the other group for anti-adhesive purposes. In the control group, no viscoelastic application was made. Bandage was applied to the operated extremities for three weeks post-operatively. At the end of five weeks, euthanasia was performed on the animals using pentobarbital sodium. Surgical sites in all groups were macroscopically examined for healing status as well as the presence and extent of adhesions. Biomechanical tests and histopathological examinations were then performed on the tendons in all groups. Findings established once again the positive contribution of hyaluronic acid to preventing adhesion formation as well as to healing and tensile strength in tendon surgery. Although, we found that it is possible to use synovial fluid, which is a natural source of hyaluronic acid, as a viscoelastic material, it is not superior to commercial hyaluronic acid preparation.


RESUMO: Asderências peritendinares são um problema significativo na cirurgia tendínea. Um dos métodos mais empregados para evitar a formação de adesão são as aplicações anti-adesivas. Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar a eficácia do líquido sinovial natural como um agente viscoelástico alternativo para prevenir a adesão no período de cicatrização comparado ao ácido hialurônico. Trinta coelhos adultos da Nova Zelândia foram utilizados no estudo para formar três modelos experimentais. Em todos os grupos, uma ruptura foi induzida nos tendões de Aquiles. Após tenorrafia, o ácido hialurônico foi aplicado em um grupo e o líquido sinovial no outro grupo para fins anti-adesivos. No grupo controle, não foi feita qualquer aplicação viscoelástica. A bandagem foi aplicada às extremidades operadas por três semanas pós-operatório. No final de cinco semanas, a eutanásia foi realizada nos animais utilizando pentobarbital sódico. Os locais cirúrgicos em todos os grupos foram examinados macroscopicamente quanto ao estado de cura, bem como a presença e extensão das aderências. Testes biomecânicos e exames histopatológicos foram realizados nos tendões em todos os grupos. Os achados estabeleceram mais uma vez a contribuição positiva do ácido hialurônico para prevenir a formação de aderências, bem como para a cicatrização e resistência à tração na cirurgia do tendão. Embora se tenha constatado que é possível utilizar fluido sinovial, que é uma fonte natural de ácido hialurónico, como material viscoelástico, não é superior à preparação de ácido hialurónico comercial.

BACKGROUND: Canal transportation is a common sequel caused by rotary instruments. AIMS: The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the degree of transportation after the use of Reciproc single-file instruments with or without glide path files. METHODS: Thirty resin blocks with L-shaped canals were divided into three groups (n = 10). Group 1 - canals were prepared with Reciproc-25 file. Group 2 - glide path file-G1 was used before Reciproc. Group 3 - glide path files-G1 and G2 were used before Reciproc. Pre- and post-instrumentation images were superimposed under microscope, and resin removed from the inner and outer surfaces of the root canal was calculated throughout 10 points. RESULTS: Statistical analysis was performed with Kruskal-Wallis test and post hoc Dunn test. For coronal and middle one-thirds, there was no significant difference among groups (P > 0.05). For apical section, transportation of Group 1 was significantly higher than other groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Using glide path files before Reciproc single-file system reduced the degree of apical canal transportation.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Extrusion of intracanal bacteria leads to treatment failures. Compare the apical extrusion of intracanal bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis) during canal preparation with three different instrumentation techniques [RECIPROC, One Shape (OS), and Twisted-File Adaptive (TFA)] with different motion types. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety teeth with different canal morphologies were divided into three main groups, each including 30 teeth (10 mandibular incisors, 10 mandibular premolars, and 10 curved roots). Roots were resected until 13-mm working length was obtained and fixed to glass vials filled with brain-heart infusion broth. Each canal was filled with E. faecalis suspension. The three main groups were further grouped into three subgroups. Each group was further subgrouped into three, with each subgroup including 10 roots from each type of teeth (10 incisors/subgroup, 10 premolars/subgroup, and 10 curved canals/subgroup). These subgroups were prepared with one of RECIPROC, OS, or TFA. Bacterial colonies extruded into each vial were incubated in brain-heart infusion agar at 37°C for 5 days and counted using a colony counter as the number of colony-forming units per milliliter. Statistical analyses were performed using one-way analysis of variance, post hoc Tukey honest significant difference, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. RESULTS: Apically extruded bacteria were not statistically different from each other (P > 0.05). The amount of apically extruded bacteria was statistically similar for both different instruments in the same type of tooth (P > 0.05) and same instrument in different types of teeth (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Neither the motion type of instrument nor the canal morphology affected the degree of bacterial extrusion.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the dentinal tubule occlusion potential and penetration of Clinpro® White Varnish (5% sodium fluoride + tri-calcium phosphate) in the presence or absence of Nd:YAG laser. Seventy-five dentin samples collected from 38 freshly extracted human molars were randomly divided into five groups (n = 15). Groups A, B, D, and E were varnished with Clinpro, whereas group C (no treatment) served as the control group. Groups B and E were further irradiated with Nd:YAG laser (1.5 W, 10 Hz, 1 min). All study groups were subjected to pH cycling (kept in 0.3% citric acid 5 min/day for 5 days). Groups A, B, and C were evaluated for tubule occlusion using scanning electron microscopy. Groups D and E were evaluated for penetration with confocal laser scanning microscopy (SEM). Non-parametric Kruskall-Wallis and Dunn's statistical tests were used for analysis of SEM results. The penetration depths were analyzed with one-way ANOVA followed by Fisher's Least Significant Difference tests. Tubular occlusion of groups A and B were significantly greater than group C (p < 0.05). Tubular occlusion of group B were significantly greater than group A (p < 0.05). Penetration depth for group D was significantly greater than group E (p < 0.05). Laser application improved the tubular occlusion capacity of Clinpro.
